Psycho-Educational Assessments

Identifying barriers to learning.

Service Description

A learning difficulty usually presents in childhood and can cause a child to experience a number of challenges in a traditional classroom setting. Different types of learning difficulties occur; some of the more well-known are Dyslexia, ADHD, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia. During a psycho-educational assessment, the child is evaluated on key areas, namely intellectual ability, scholastic skills (reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics) and emotional maturity. Behavioral aspects are also noted during the assessment and include attention and concentration skills, task orientation, and meta-cognitive strategies. The aim of a psycho-educational assessment is to make recommendations for extra accommodation and support of the child’s specific educational needs and my include remedial therapy, learning support, occupational therapy, speech- and language therapy as well as assessment concessions.
